Law on Amendments and Addendums to the Law on Property Taxes

In focus: Law on Amendments and Addendums to the Law on Property Taxes (hereinafter referred to as: the „Law“) was published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia no. 24/2011 and entered into force on April 12, 2011, whereas its provisions which pertain to the subject of taxation, the determination of tax rates and tax exemptions are in application from January 1, 2011.

Law on Legal Practice

In focus: the new Law on Legal Practice (“Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia”, no. 31/2011) which came into force on May 17, 2011 (from here on referred to as: the “Law”) stipulates the rules, conditions as well as forms for practice of law, rights and duties of attorneys at law and law trainees, together with the work of the Bar Association. The most significant changes introduced by this Law include the mandatory professional indemnity insurance for attorneys, the establishment of the Directory of Law Partnerships, the establishment of the Attorney Academy and the attorney exam, as well as the requirements for registration of attorneys– foreign nationals with the Serbian Bar Association.

Consumer Protection Law

In focus: the new Consumer Protection Law was rendered on the October 12th 2010 (Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia, vol. 73/2010, hereinafter referred to as the “Law”). The Law is in force as of October 20th 2010, and actively enforced as of January 1st 2011.

Law on Preventing Population from Exposure to Tobacco Smoke

In focus: the Law on Preventing Population from Exposure to Tobacco Smoke came into force on May 15th, 2010 (“Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia”, no. 30/2010) (hereinafter referred to as: the “Law”) and on October 20th, 2010 the Rulebook on the form and content of the sign ‘no smoking’, the sign ‘smoking allowed’ in a certain area, the way of posting the signs, the form of reports on the violation of the smoking ban, the type and manner of collecting evidences of smoking and the manner for determining the presence of tobacco smoke in a space where smoking is prohibited, as well as the form for collection of the fine on spot (“Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia”, no. 73/2010) (hereinafter referred to as: the “Rulebook”) came into force.

Law on the Prevention of Harassment at the Workplace

In focus: The Law on the Prevention of Harassment at the Workplace (“Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia”, no. 36/10) has started to implement on September 4th 2010, on the basis of which the Minister on employment and social policy issued the Rulebook on the rules of conduct of the employers and employees concerning the prevention and protection from harassment at the workplace (“Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia”, no. 62/10).

Law on the Protection from Fire

In focus: the new Law on the Protection from Fire („Official gazette of the Republic of Serbia“ no. 111/2009) has entered into force on January 6th 2010, and is being implemented as of October 6th 2010. The Law prescribes general obligations of all legal persons for the prevention and protection from fire, as well as specific obligations depending on the category of endangerment from fire into which the legal person is classified.

New US Embassy

With the approval of the United States Government, CSJ has been engaged by Framaco International Inc. on the project of construction of the new US Embassy in Belgrade. The engagement includes providing all types of legal assistance and coordination of construction work, including planning, construction as well as contacts with government agencies and public companies in Serbia.
